Cataract Surgery Cost in Agartala

Why there is no single price, what changes it, and how to get your own written estimate before you decide.

How much does cataract surgery cost?

There is no single figure that is honest for everyone, because the biggest part of the cost is a choice you make with your surgeon: which artificial lens (IOL) goes into your eye. The surgery itself — stitchless phacoemulsification as a day-care procedure — is the same. Your own figure is given to you after your eye has been examined and measured, and you can ask for it in writing before you decide anything.

What changes the cost?

The lens you choose

  • Monofocal IOL — a single-focus lens that gives excellent distance vision; reading glasses are usually still needed. This is the option most insurance and government schemes cover.
  • Toric IOL — for patients who also have significant cylindrical power (astigmatism); it corrects the cylinder at the same time as the cataract.
  • Multifocal and EDOF IOLs — premium lenses designed to give useful distance and near vision together, so many patients need glasses only occasionally.

Which lens suits you depends on your eye, your work and your other eye as well as your budget. Your surgeon will explain the options after measuring the eye; the choice of lens is yours.

One eye or both

We normally operate on one eye first and the second a short time later, once the first has settled. Each eye is a separate operation, so ask whether an estimate is for one eye or two.

Your tests and your health

Before surgery the eye is evaluated and measured (biometry) to calculate the lens power, and blood sugar, blood pressure and a physician clearance are checked where needed. What is needed depends on you — a diabetic patient, for example, is asked to bring recent reports.

Is cataract surgery covered by insurance?

Yes — cataract surgery is covered by most health insurance policies and cashless TPA schemes. Bring your policy or TPA card and a photo ID, and the front desk will raise the pre-authorisation with your insurer. What is settled directly depends on your policy terms. See how cashless treatment works.

Can I pay in instalments?

EMI options are available. Ask the front desk when you receive your estimate.

How do I get my own figure?

  1. Book an evaluation — call, WhatsApp or use the booking form.
  2. After the examination and measurements, your surgeon explains which lenses suit your eye.
  3. Ask for a written estimate for the lens you prefer, and ask what it includes.
  4. If you have insurance, the front desk checks what your policy will cover before the date is fixed.
