Repeatable topography
Several scans are taken; a stable, reproducible map is a precondition for this treatment.

Standard LASIK workup
Corneal thickness, dilated refraction, tear film and retinal examination, exactly as for conventional LASIK.

Treatment
Flap creation followed by the topography-guided ablation. Same theatre time as conventional LASIK.

Day one, week one, month one and month three.
Recovery & aftercare
Recovery is the same as conventional LASIK — usable vision the next morning, sharpening over a few weeks, lubricants for two to three months. Patients most often describe the difference as cleaner vision at night rather than more letters on the chart.
Why timing matters
Contoura is not automatically superior for everyone. Its advantage shows up in eyes that genuinely carry measurable corneal irregularity; on a perfectly regular cornea the extra cost buys very little. We recommend it only when your topography shows something worth correcting.

How is Contoura different from normal LASIK? +
Normal LASIK treats your spectacle power. Contoura treats your spectacle power plus the mapped irregularities of your own corneal surface.
Does Contoura guarantee better-than-6/6 vision? +
No. Some patients do achieve better-than-6/6, but that is an outcome, not a promise. The reliable benefit is improved quality and night-time comfort of vision.
Is Contoura suitable for keratoconus? +
Not as a spectacle-removal procedure. Keratoconus needs cross-linking to stabilise the cornea first, and any surface treatment there is a different, specialised decision.
Does it cost more than standard LASIK? +
Yes, because of the additional diagnostic mapping and the customised treatment profile. The exact difference is given to you at counselling.
