What a full examination includes
- Visual acuity for distance and near, tested one eye at a time
- Refraction to determine your exact spectacle prescription
- Intraocular pressure measurement to screen for glaucoma

How often you should be examined
- Children: at around three years, before school, then every one to two years
- Adults under 40 with no symptoms: every two years
- Everyone from 40 onwards: annually, chiefly to screen for glaucoma and presbyopia
- Anyone with diabetes: at least once a year regardless of age or symptoms
- Anyone with a family history of glaucoma: annually from about 35
- Contact lens wearers and high myopes: yearly, with a dilated retinal check

Registration and history
Bring your current glasses, a list of your medicines, and recent sugar or blood pressure reports if you have them.

Preliminary testing
Vision, autorefraction and pressure measurement by our optometry team.

Dilation
Drops take 30 to 45 minutes to work. Vision is blurred and light-sensitive for four to six hours afterwards, so do not plan to drive yourself home.

Doctor’s examination and advice
Findings explained in plain language, with a written prescription and a defined date for your next review.
Why timing matters
The two commonest causes of irreversible blindness in India — glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy — both cause no symptoms in their early, treatable stages. Neither will announce itself. The only thing that finds them in time is an examination performed on someone who feels perfectly fine, which is the entire argument for a routine check-up.

How long does a full eye check-up take? +
Allow around 90 minutes to two hours if dilation is required, including the waiting time for the drops to work.
Can I drive myself home afterwards? +
Not if you have been dilated. Vision is blurred and glare-sensitive for several hours. Please bring someone with you or arrange transport.
My vision is fine. Do I still need a check-up? +
Yes, particularly after 40 and every year if you are diabetic. Glaucoma and early retinopathy are silent — normal vision does not mean a normal eye.
What should I bring? +
Your current spectacles or contact lenses, a list of medications, previous eye records, and recent blood sugar or blood pressure reports.
Do you see patients travelling from other districts? +
